about

‘High Beams’ is the first taste of what's to come from TLLSB sophomore album. This track is about those near-death experiences that can happen when confronted by another driver not turning their high beam lights off when driving at night on country roads.

The chorus of ‘High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain’ would surely resonate with anyone who has driven the roads of country Australia. The thoughts that would go through one head when confronted by a blinding oncoming light are personalised to The Little Lord Street Band’s experiences of long-distance travel through all kinds of conditions on Australia’s roads.

The lyric of ‘city folk trying to cut it in picking band’ relates to the band’s ‘imposter syndrome of being placed in the country genre whilst being Perth city born and bred and striving to have an individual and unique sound. On top of these rather morbid and personalised issues, The Little Lord Street Band still endeavours to have fun and not take themselves too seriously with a two-stepping groove and if you listen to the story, a happy ending.

lyrics

Crossing the country, trying to make the next show.
The clouds were heavy and the sunset had lost it’s glow.
The roads were winding and tight, off we went into the night.
Then the pitter-patter raindrops quickly became a storm.

Turn off the radio, no time for a wandering mind.
Hands-on the wheel, help from a little
white lines.
Then I see the light, coming down fast and blinding my sight.
High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain.

High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain.
High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain.
High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain.

A long way from home and very much out of our depth.
City folk trying to cut it as a picking band.
How did it come to this? All banged up and spread out in a ditch.
The high beam lights coming over the hill in the rain.

High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain.
High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain.
High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain.

I’m still singing so you know we got out alright.
Gripped tight on the wheel, we came out on the other side. Got on to the next show, found a little bed to call my home
With face as white as those high beam lights in the rain.

High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain!
High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain!
High beam lights coming over the hill in the rain!
